SAIBSA-JOB ALIKE - GD GOENKA WORLD SCHOOL; 2nd FEB 2013

SAIBSA is the acronym for the South Asia International Baccalaureate Schools Association. The SAIBSA job-alike held at G D Goenka World School, Sohna Road, Gurgaon on the 2nd Feb, facilitated the SAIBSA aims of promoting a greater understanding of the IB Diploma Program and exchange of ideas. Over 15 schools participated in this day-long event with around 150 representatives from the NCR schools as well cities like Jaipur, Bhilwara, Dehradun and Bangalore.

 Pathways School Noida had 13 teachers as participants and facilitators covering the length and breadth of the DP subject areas. Mr Jaffar; the Senior School Principal facilitated the Theory Of Knowledge aspect for Group 5 and 6, Ms Geetanjali Diwan was the facilitator for ITGS and Comp Sc and Ms Geeta Verma; the DP Coordinator facilitated the Eng Lit and TOK sessions for Group 1 and Group 2. Jb Alike Sessions are forums for IB practitioners to be enriched through their sharing and provide an opportunity to strengthen and deepen our shared IB philosophy. The facilitators are the first amongst equals who generate productive and enriching discussions.
The Plenary Session by Mr. Raman Roy CEO Quatrro, Business Process Outsourcing, focussed on the need of the hour and our role as teachers. Next, Ms Priyamvada Taneja; Development Manager, India gave us the latest information regarding the recent developments in the IB world.

This was followed by Subject specific sessions. Each subject group focussed on areas such as curriculum mapping, strategies on teaching, assessment tools and the sharing of resources and ideas. Changes in the curriculum, internal assessments were other key areas that were discussed. Separate sessions on Theory of Knowledge and ideas to incorporate it with specific subject areas were conducted where creative discussions and activities led many a teacher to greater understanding about this Core component.
The session ended with the Chairman SAIBSA; Mr Kaisar Dopaishi’s vote of thanks and distribution of certificates. The experience was enlightening and educative for all and the NCR region teachers look forward to many more job-alike sessions in the future.
